Flipping 'eck - don’t forget the pancakes......
Added: Monday 20 Feb, 2012Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Day, Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, depending on where you live.
It is the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the start of the Lenten fasting period of 40 days (Sundays are excluded from this period of time) leading up to Thursday of Holy Week. During this time the consumption of pleasure giving foods are restricted and traditionally butter, sugar, meat and eggs were amongst these foods (although we think their pleasure giving status has been somewhat overtaken by chocolate cakes and cookies).
So on Shrove Tuesday all of the excess rich foodstuffs were used up in advance of Lent, when a plainer diet would be eaten, and so the tradition of eating pancakes was born.
Personally we cannot think of anything worse than eating plain pancakes and why limit it just ones covered in sugar and lemon? So if you want your pancake fix with a twist and the thought of our Batakha ke rolls has you salivating at the prospect, then come dine with us; however if meat is not your thing, then there is also the Vegetarian Medley Pancake option at our sister restaurant Grille Steakhouse , where you can take advantage of our February Double Deal
So it doesn’t need to be Jif Lemon day, does it?
